Monday, June 22 – Module 1

Converting UNV to UNX

Intended Audience:

This module is intended for individuals who want to know how to convert existing universes (.unv) into Information Design Tool universes (.unx).

Prerequisites:

None, however Universe Designer experience will be helpful.

Synopsis:

This course is designed to provide the steps for converting.  We will cover some of the pitfalls and known bugs/issues with converted universes as well as why you might still need to convert.

Monday, June 22 – Module 2

Connections

Intended Audience:

This module is intended for individuals who work with Connections.  This is often Designers, but may also include Administrators.

Prerequisites:

None, however Universe Designer experience will be helpful.

Synopsis:

This course is designed to walk through creating connections and using existing connections as well as the requirements when using a Multiple connection universe.

Major Topics include:
  • Creating Connections and Shortcuts
  • Single vs. Multiple Connections
  • Data Federator tool
  • 64-bit vs 32-bit Requirements

Monday, June 22 – Module 3

Creating Data Foundations

Intended Audience:

This module is intended for the Novice to Experienced universe designer.

Prerequisites:

None, however Universe Designer experience will be helpful.

Synopsis:

This module is intended to show attendees how Data Foundations are created and how to work with them.

Major Topics include:
  • Creating the Data Foundation
  • Inserting/Editing Joins
  • Refreshing Structure
  • Contexts vs Aliases
  • Data Foundation Views
  • Comments and Families

Tuesday, June 23 – Module 4

Resolving Chasm Traps and Fan Traps and Using Outer Joins

Intended Audience:

This module is intended Universe Designers who may be working with Snowflake or Transactional databases.

Prerequisites:

None, however Universe Designer experience will be helpful.

Synopsis:

This course will discuss fan traps and chasm traps- what they are and how they affect the results of a query.  We will walk through how to work with them in IDT.  This course will also cover outer joins both in discussion and exercise.

  • Recognizing traps
  • Resolving traps
  • Outer Joins 101

Tuesday, June 23 – Module 5

IDT Extras – Exclusive to IDT

Intended Audience:

This module is intended for the universe designer wishing to familiarize themselves with the new IDT tool.

Prerequisites:

None, however Universe Designer experience will be helpful.

Synopsis:

This module is intended to demonstrate some of the smaller but useful additions in the IDT software for working with universes.

Major Topics include:
  • Calculated Columns
  • Colors
  • Comments
  • Running Queries

Tuesday, June 23 – Module 6

Creating Business Layers

Intended Audience:

This module is intended for the universe designer wishing to familiarize themselves with the new IDT tool.

Prerequisites:

None, however Universe Designer experience will be helpful.

Synopsis:

This module will walk through creating the Business Layer and creating Business Views.

Major Topics include:
  • Creating a Business Layer
  • Inserting Folders and Objects
  • Creating a Business View
  • Security Business Views

Wednesday, June 24 – Module 7

Prompts – Cascading and Otherwise

Intended Audience:

This module is intended for the universe designer wishing to familiarize themselves with the new IDT tool.

Prerequisites:

None, however Universe Designer experience will be helpful.

Synopsis:

This module will walk through creating prompts in the Data Foundation Layer and in the Business Layer and why you would choose one over the other.

Major Topics include:
  • Creating Prompt in Data Foundation
  • Creating Prompt in Business Layer
  • Cascading Prompts
  • Hierarchy Prompts

Wednesday, June 24 – Module 8

Helpful Predefined Conditions

Intended Audience:

This module is intended for the universe designer wishing to familiarize themselves with the new IDT tool.

Prerequisites:

Knowledge of SQL

Synopsis:

This module will cover some commonly created predefined conditions.

Major Topics include:
  • Creating Predefined Conditions
  • Date Prompts
  • Correlated Subqueries
  • Creative Conditions

Wednesday, June 24 – Module 9

IDT: Using OLAP and SAP Data Sources

Intended Audience:

This module is intended for the universe designer wishing to familiarize themselves with the new IDT tool.

Prerequisites:

Knowledge of OLAP cubes and/or SAP Bex Queries and BW Connectivity.

Synopsis:

This module will walk through some of the less common connection types.  We will cover creating a universe based on an OLAP cube and universes based on some of the SAP connection options.

Major Topics include:
  • Creating an OLAP connection
  • Creating and OLAP connected Universe
  • Options for Connecting with SAP Data
